Gladys Davis, 94, of Valley City, ND formerly of Page passed away from this life on Sunday, May 2, 2021 at CHI Mercy Hospital in Valley City, ND.
Gladys Marie was born on August 4, 1926 in Page, ND to Floyd and Laura (Green) Rintoul. She was a member of the Our Savior Lutheran Church. Gladys and her sister, known as Irene, lost their mother when they were very young and went to live with Floyd's parents in Page. Around the age of 13, Gladys and her sister went to live with their father on the Farm just outside of Page. This is when her love and devotion to her family and farm life began. Gladys graduated from Page School in 1944.
One day, while visiting a neighbor, she happened to meet a tall handsome man named Harry. They were married in November, 1945. Gladys was always up for company, never let the hired hands go hungry and always had dinner and supper ON TIME for her husband and sons. She was also known to drive tractors and combines. She loved to cook, tended her flower gardens, painted pottery and created dried flower arrangements for every season.
The loss of her husband in 2010 took a toll on her and she left her beloved farm and moved to Bridgeview Estates, Valley City, ND in 2012. The unexpected passing of her youngest son Jan in 2016 was another challenge she faced with dignity and grace.
She will be greatly missed. We take comfort knowing that because of Jesus Christ she rushed to the arms of her mother, reunited with her husband and son and that we will see her again.
We know that the lockdown of the elderly and disabled residents took a toll on everyone, including family and friends. She referred to it as being put in "solitary confinement" for which she had done no crime. Although she did not get COVID, her mental and physical health suffered because of it. There is no way to recover those lost moments. Hug your elders every chance you have and take time to listen to the wisdom and stories they long to share.
She is survived by her eldest son Terence, his wife Rosemary, one grandson, Daniel and one bonus granddaughter, Brandi, and 7 great grandchildren, Russell, Mason, Logan, Blake, Lily, Christian and Hunter.
