MRS DIXON DIES AT WITT HOME
Was Widow of Elevator Man
Mrs Lucinda Dixon, 92, widow of the late Robert Dixon, Civil War Veteran and former Witt elevator operator, died at her home at Witt Friday morning at 1:10 o'clock, following an illness of 2 weeks from infirmities due to advanced age. Her husband, who died in 1923, was one of the pioneer business man of Witt, who operated a grain elevator in the firm of Dixon and Shuping for many years.
Funeral Sunday
Funeral services will be held Sunday at the Dixon residence, with the Rev Evans, pastor of the Witt M E Church, officiating. Burial will be made at the St John's Cemetery near Witt.
Mrs Dixon was born November 7 1847 in Ohio, a daughter of the late Mr and Mrs Daniel Hauck. Her parents moved to Illinois when she was a child and she war reared near Witt. On April 21 1870 she and Robert Dixon, a young Civil War soldier, were united in marriage at Hillsboro and they became parents of one daughter, who is Mrs J P Maxey of Witt. Mrs Dixon had lived in the Witt locality for more than 70 years, being of the best known and best loved residents of that vicinity.
Surviving her with her daughter are 2 grandchildren, a brother Charles of Litchfield and a sister Mrs Tenio Hoffmeister of Golden City, Missouri.
Four brothers and 1 sister preceded her in death. She was an active member of the Witt M E Church for more than half a century, until recent years when her advanced age forced her to lead a retired life.
