John's parents immigrated to the Neudorf area from Brondorf, Galicia, Austria in 1892. Son, John was born on the homestead near Neudorf, North-West Territories (now Saskatchewan)
John & Mary were married 10 Nov 1919 at St. Elizabeth Roman Catholic Church in Killaly, SK
John and Mary farmed at Killaly until 1922, then moved to a farm near Zeneta, Saskatchewan. The family then moved to a larger centre to seek medical aid for their invalid daughter, Ellen. They lived in Windsor, Ontario from 1925 to 1926 and Chicago, Illinois, USA from 1926 to 1928. During this time, John was employed as a carpenter in the construction industry. While in the States, to make pronunciation easier the spelling of the family name changed from Bruch to Bruck. In 1928 they moved to St.Walburg, SK and filed a homestead claim on a quarter of land near Flat Valley. Improvements were made to the homestead and in 1930, after the bridge was built over the Beaver River, the family was able to move from St. Walburg to the farm at Flat Valley, SK. They farmed until retirement in 1956, and then moved to Grand Centre, Alberta to be near their daughter, Lorene and family. They lived on an acreage where everything was kept neat and tidy (not a small feat, when Lorene and her brood came to visit). John was a farmer to the end, raising chickens and helping Mary with the bountiful vegetable garden and raspberry patch.
In the early spring of 1969, John had surgery on the heal of his foot to remove a growth. He was home recovering from this surgery when he went out to shovel snow and suffered a heart attack. He died in the Cold Lake Hospital a few days later.
