He had a very active military career which he ultimately retired from. He served in the Korean conflict and four tours of duty in Vietnam. He was highly decorated with four bronze stars, five Army commendations, and multiple Army achievement medals.

He is survived by his wife, Reva Bell of Fayetteville, NC and their seven children Cynthia Williams, Patricia Holmes, Arthur Pat Jr., Bell, Reginald Bell, Gwendolyn Bell, Kenneth Bell, and Kerry Bell. Brenda Carter and her family were very close and dear to Arthur. He had a huge and giving heart to others. He was predeceased by both parents Lesslie and Minnie, his brother John Curtis, and daughter Jacqueline Elizabeth Mullins. "
