John Hedge was born 30 October 1831 in Harwich the youngest child of John and Mary Ann Hedge. He was baptised 11 November 1831 in Manningtree. In the 1841 census John was nine years old, residing in Wyke Regis. He married his wife Margaret Amon 25 June 1857 In swanage, when he was twenty five years old. In the 1861 census John was twenty nine years old, residing at Wyke Regis, alongside his wife and daughter. In the 1871 census John was thirty nine years old, residing at Reculver. Alongside his wife and four daughters. John was a coast guard. John passed away 16 July 1874 in Birchington, aged forty two years old. Who was drowned of Birchington. He was buried in Birchington, alongside his wife, son and daughter in law.
