May 1, 2021 Nancy J. (Bishop) Cain, 89, passed away Saturday evening at Crouse Hospital. She was born in Syracuse, and was the daughter of John and Geraldine Bishop. She grew up in the Valley, graduating from Onondaga Valley Academy and Crouse Irving School of Nursing. Upon graduation, she worked at Crouse Irving Hospital and later at General Electric; while working, she met many wonderful friends in the industrial nursing program. She took time off to raise her family before returning to work, and later retired from Niagara Mohawk in 1987. She was a life-long member of the William H. Cain Post 1287 American Legion Auxiliary, the East Syracuse Keener Seniors, and the Sullivan Leisure Time Club. She volunteered for the Madison County Food Cupboard and the Madison County Board of Elections. She was an active member of St. Patrick's Church in Chittenango and enjoyed singing in the choir. She had many happy memories of her family's camp on Panther Lake. She enjoyed camping and boating in the 1000 Islands, traveling, and playing cards, but her greatest joy came from gardening and spending time with her family. She will be greatly missed. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband of 54 years, Jack F. Cain and her son in law William Carter. She is survived by her son John (Lisa) Cain, her daughter Erin Carter, her grandchildren LD Carter, Kevin Carter, Robert Cain, Bridget Cain, three great grandchildren, two nieces and several cousins. She is also survived by her sister in law Ellen McGowan with whom she was especially close, and her very special friend Don Runkowski. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 am Thursday, May 6, 2021 at St. Patrick's Church, Murray Dr. Chittenango.
