Baton Rouge native, Richard Sanders Morris Sr., age 86, died on April 26, 2021. He was at home surrounded by his loving family. Richard was born on April 20, 1935 in the family home on East State Street commonly known as Professors Row. Visitation will be at 11:00-12:00 followed by a service in the sanctuary of First Presbyterian church at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday May 1, 2021. Interment will be at Bethany Presbyterian church in Ariel, Mississippi which is five miles east of Centreville, Mississippi. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Cynthia Gallent Morris, his sons Richard Jr. and wife Rachel Lay, Dedric Gallent and wife Renee Griffon, and Allan Waller and wife Brenda Anderson. Richard is also survived by his grandchildren, whom he loved dearly, William Gallent and wife Ashlyn, Christine Jessica, Jackson Gallent, Jordan Griffon and great granddaughter Alden Katherine Morris. Also survived by sister-in-law Jo Gallent and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother Dedric Guthrie (Buddy) and his parents Willis Dedric and Louise Livar Morris. Richard was a graduate of University High and Louisiana State University. At LSU he was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity, ROTC with a shaved head and LSU beanie cap as was true of all freshman male students. He was also active in College Town Civic Association of which he served as President and the Thursday Night Group. As an active member of First Presbyterian church in Baton Rouge, he served as an ordained Elder and Deacon. Until retirement Richard enjoyed the role of builder constructing numerous houses and apartments in the LSU area. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at The Baton Rouge General Medical Center, Dr. Louis Minsky and staff, Dr. Gerald Milettello and staff as well as his devoted caregivers, Edith Mosely and Patricia Williams.
