Janice Yvonne Thomas, 81, passed away Wednesday, April 28, 2021, at Taylor House Hospice.

She is survived by her daughter, Kelly (Tom) Roseberry; grandchildren, Heather (Ian) Lintner and Travis (Marisa) Roseberry; great-grandson, Finn Roseberry; sisters, Evelyn (Donald) Fackler, Anna Myers, and Patricia Fackler; and nieces and nephews on both sides of the family.

Janice was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Tommy; brothers, Harold in infancy and Tommy; and her parents.

She was born in Weber City, Virginia on August 16, 1939 to Patrick and Venus (Ketron) Lowe.

She was a long-time member of Galilee Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and worked with the Awana Program. Janice took time to foster the growth of children's spiritual and intellectual education. The neighborhood children grew near and dear to her heart, and became life-long friends - Tom and Todd Bacon, and Morgan and Kyle Holcomb, to name a few.

Janice enjoyed spending time in nature, gardening, and feeding the birds and the squirrels.
She liked playing dominoes and checkers with the kids and her sisters.

Services will be held at Galilee Baptist Church, 2208 Des Moines Street, Des Moines, IA 50317, on Wednesday, May 5, 2021. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place at Laurel Hill Cemetery after the funeral.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the family to go towards causes close to Janice's heart, such as Galilee Baptist Church, the American Heart Association, and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
