SGM Robert Donald McCoy, US Army (Ret.), 90, of Columbia, died Saturday, May 1, 2021. Born in Whitesburg, TN, his parents were Horace and Willie Ruth Range McCoy and he was married to the late Sarah Elizabeth Lockey. Robert retired from the US Army and the city of Columbia where he worked as a civil engineer. Upon his retirement from the US Army, he served as an assistant to the Joint Chiefs of Staff. He enjoyed drawing, painting, and carpentry work and was a member of Woodfield Park Baptist Church.
Survivors include his daughter, Saron (Keith) Coffman; son, Bobby (Shelia) McCoy; grandchildren, Christopher (Brandie) Coffman, Lauren (Brian) Furniss, Kevin (Whitney) Coffman, Stacey (Jimmy) Valentine, Aaron McCoy; and 8 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, Carroll McCoy; sister, Marilyn Hartman; and brother, David McCoy.
The graveside service will be held at 1 o'clock, Wednesday, May 5th, at Fort Jackson National Cemetery. All are invited to the service but are required to wear mask in accordance with the guidelines of the cemetery. The livestream video can be seen on Robert's tribute page at ShivesFuneralHome.com. The family will receive visitors at Robert McCoy's home.
