In 1930 he and his parents and three brothers lived on a farm they owned, mortgage free, in West Franklin Township, Armstrong County, PA. Their home was valued at $9000, and they had a radio.

In 1940 the six of them still lived there. Their home was valued at only $1500 after the Great Depression--but it seems likely that that was for just their house, and not the entire farm as may have been the case in 1930. Randall worked as a laborer at the lime works, with an income in 1939 of $500 for 20 weeks of work.

In 1950 he and his wife and their son lived there with his parents on the Worthington-Slate Lick Road (228). He worked as a helper on the farm.
