Judy Olson, 66, of Story City, died April 29, 2021 at the Israel Family Hospice in Ames. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 pm Wednesday, May 5, 2021 at Salem Lutheran Church in Roland. Burial will follow in the Roland Cemetery. A visitation will be held Tuesday from 5 to 7 at Salem Lutheran Church.

Judy was born on June 21, 1954 in Ames to Robert and Ilah Jean (Mayfield) Thompson. She graduated from Colo High School in 1972 and then attended Nursing School in Marshalltown, Iowa.

Judy married Jim Olson on January 1, 1992. Judy worked as a LPN in Marshalltown and Story County High School and was a member of the Story County Ambulance. She worked as a waitress at Happy Chef for a few years, before becoming an entrepreneur and establishing her own day care out of her home in Story City. Judy provided child care for 12 years. She also worked in loss prevention for Super Value and Cubs Foods in Ames for 15 years.

Judy enjoyed playing the piano, scrapbooking, gardening, painting wood crafts, baking and entertaining. She volunteered at the Butterfly House in Ames, 4-H County Fair and for Midnight Madness to name a few things.

Judy is survived by her husband, Jim of Story City; two daughters, Rebecca (Dan) Graf of Plattsmouth, NE and Roxanne (Jeff) Pieters of Waukee, IA; two step-daughters, Angela Osheim of Olathe, KS and Jolene (Steve) Meyer of Gilbert; eight grandchildren, Bridget, Adam, Alexis, Abigail, Courtney, Allison, Aden and Cole; three great grandchildren, Cingsley, Costa, and Caelynn; a brother, Joel (Mary) Thompson of Tabor, IA and a sister, Fawyne (Darrin) Moe of Nevada, IA.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry in Story City and the Norsemen Food Pantry in Roland.
