Mary "Frances" Chambers, 76, wife of Jimmy Chambers, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on April 29, 2021. She was at her home in Taylors surrounded by her family.
She was born in Greenville, SC on October 21, 1944, to the late J.L. and Mary Charping. In addition to her devoted husband of 34 years, she is survived by her sons, Ray McDowell (Kara) and David McDowell (Maxine); daughter, Susan Varner (Todd); grandchildren, Bryce McDowell (Rebekah), Gabrielle McDowell, Marissa McDowell, Marigordon Varner, Ian McDowell, and Hiram Varner; great-grandsons, Teddy, Thaddeus, and Henry; brother, John Charping, Jr. (Linda); uncles, Don Cox and Perry Cox; mother-in-law, Ruth "Taffy" Gabel; and her dog, Pepper.
She dearly loved her godly parents and passed that godly heritage and love for family on to her children and grandchildren. She prayed for them daily. Everyone, including her children, knew not to mess with "Grandma's little angels" her favorite term of endearment for her grandchildren. She loved to cook for the whole family often using the fruits and vegetables that she canned each summer. Her sense of humor and her infectious laugh could get the whole room laughing, especially when retelling stories to her grandchildren about their parents as children. Crocheting blankets was a hobby she enjoyed. Teaching her granddaughter to crochet was a joy for her. Flower arranging was one of her favorite hobbies. She loved animals, especially her dogs Pepper and Kayce.
She was a member of Lee Road Baptist Church and was involved with their shut-in ministry. She also served in the food pantry at Washington Baptist Church. Joy Club and the Lion's Club also benefitted from her heart of service. She was able to serve and care for others in so many ways because she knew she could do all things through Christ who gave her strength (Philippians 4:13, her favorite verse).
