UNITED STATES ARMY VETERAN

James P. Whalen of Medford, formerly of Somerville, passed away April 29, 2021. Beloved husband of nearly 68 years to Margaret "Pat" (Burke) Whalen. Devoted father of Jim Whalen of Milford, NH, Patty Fothergill of North Reading and their spouses and the late Marie Monagle. Cherished "Papa" of eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Dear brother of John of CT, Barbara Synan of Somerville, Francis of Groveland, Lawrence of Somerville, and the late Patricia Gosine and Helen Haneffant. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Mr. Whalen was an Army veteran of the Korean War and a retired Somerville Police Officer.

Funeral Mass celebrated in St. Raphael Church, Medford.
Burial with Military honors to follow at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
