Victor W. Hart Obituary:
Victor W. Hart, 86, of Topsham, formerly of Round Pond, and River Vale, N.J., passed away Sept. 2.
Victor was a graduate of Rutgers University and New York Law School. As a partner in the Hackensack, N.J. law firm of Gladstone Hart, he was the fourth generation of Hart lawyers. He was Township Attorney and Prosecutor in River Vale, N.J. and Borough Attorney in Old Tappan, N.J.
Victor was involved in many community activities and served on numerous boards. In New Jersey, he served on the vestry of Christ Episcopal Church Hackensack, and on the board of Youth Consultation Service, a nonprofit, nonsectarian agency. He was a prime mover in establishing Holley Center in Hackensack, a residential and daycare center for emotionally disturbed children in the area affiliated with Youth Consultation Service.
After retiring to Maine in 1989, his volunteer activities included Round Top Center for the Arts, serving a term as chairman of the board of Weymouth House, a residential program for adolescent boys and girls in need, and teaching classes at Coastal Senior College where he served as a president of the board.
Throughout the years, Vic pursued his many passions including photography, furniture making, reading, sports, boating and worldwide travel. Favorite trips of his included Africa, India, Tibet, the Arctic, Antarctica and trekking in Nepal in the Himalayas and in Peru in the Andes.
Victor is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Midge (nee Lasher); loving children, Linda Stelman of Brunswick, Vicki and husband Kevin of Kalamazoo, Mich., Gregory and wife Pearl of Oakland, N.J., and Kenneth of Rutherford, N.J.; grandchildren, Christina and husband Matt, Jonathan, Samantha, Keenan, Conor, Daniel, and Rebecca; and great-grandchild, Jackson.
Friends and family will remember Vic as a deeply gifted man. He was an inspiration to many. He loved life and learning and was kind and generous.
A private family celebration will honor his life.
