May 2, 1929 - April 26, 2021
Sue "Sue Su" Wood
Sue Wood, age 96, passed away peacefully in her home in Monterey, California on April 26, 2021.
She always tried to live life to the fullest and led a life filled with many admirable achievements and goals. She was fearless, leaving China alone at a young age, leaving behind her parents and 2 brothers. She moved to Taiwan after leaving China, gave birth to her only child, Sherry Marlin, and met her husband, George Wood. He brought her and Sherry to California shortly after their marriage. Sue managed to save enough money to open a gift shop in Hayward and Northridge Mall in Salinas, that she ran for over 20 years. Though she had very little formal education, she was a very successful business woman and accomplished many things in her life. She used to say, "If I was educated in the US, I would have been president."
She was a woman who enjoyed the finer things in life, always proud that she was able to afford brand new cars, bought her dream house in Monterey with a beach view, and was always impeccably dressed even if it was just to sit in the comfort of her own home. She was a beauty who always had a line of suitors at her door, but such an independent woman that she always lived her life in a way where she never "needed" a man. She enjoyed her retirement years traveling, dancing, and doing all the things that she loved.
She leaves behind her daughter, Sherry, 3 grandchildren (Nicole, Vanessa, & Ryan) and 3 great-grandchildren (Jayce, Jaxtyn, & Levi), her brother, Bao, her nephew, Shou Qi, niece, Jenny and her family and great-grandson, Chenyu (Bryan).
A celebration of life for Sue is scheduled for May 1 at Lima-Campagna-Johnson Funeral Home 17720 Monterey Road, Morgan Hill, CA 95037. Viewing is from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M.. Services will start at 1:00 P.M.
