Richard Wayne Simmons, (also known as Rick, Ricky, and Slick), age 53, of Pensacola was born January 24, 1968. He was a 1986 Tate High School graduate then a student at University of Southern Mississippi, UWF, and earned an AA degree from Pensacola Junior College. He loved the outdoors, motorcycles, hunting, fishing, football, boating, guns, knives, surfing, diving, and most importantly, spending time with family and friends. On many occasions he referred to himself as "your average, everyday Southern Boy;" but there was not anything average about him. He was a good father, loving husband, a respectful son, and a true friend. He was generous with his time, love, money, friendship, material possessions, and advice. He had that old-fashioned, hard-work ethic and commitment to professionalism. His craftmanship can be seen all over this area, from the IP papermill down to the Pensacola Beach Ball.

Rick is preceded in death by his grandparents, Benjamin Simmons, Edna Simmons, Wendell Harlan, and Martha Harlan; his brother, Douglas Simmons.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Liz Simmons; his son, Randy (Jennifer) Jefferson; his daughters, Jessica (Gregory) Dietz and Lynn (Jack) Rasmussen; parents, Bobby and Brenda Simmons; six grandchildren, Devynn, Rodney, Hunter, Lindsay, David, and Scotty.
