Augustus Prator Passes On and Again the Ranks of Pioneers is Thinned
The death of Mr. Augustus Prator in Pueblo on Tuesday once more thins the ranks of Huerfano county pioneers.
Mr. Prator was born in Georgia on March 1st, 1860, and came to Colorado when he was but ten years old, stopping on the lower Huerfano for two or three years. He came to La Veta and made homestead entry on the Wahatoya soon after reaching man's estate, and the old home till [sic] belonged to him.
On September 24th, 1880, he married Miss Martha Jane Bruce, to which union were born six sons and two daughters, four sons and the daughters still surviving. Mrs. Prator died on March 24, 1917, and the oldest son, William, on March 1, three years later.
Funeral services were held at the Methodist church this afternoon and burial was in the La Veta cemetery.
Mr. Prator's health had not been good for years while a serious operation, coupled with his wife's death shortly after, made him an invalid later. For the last few months he had been at a hospital in Pueblo, and his death was not altogether unexpected. – La Veta Advertiser
