Amateur golfer. Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on December 13, 1917, Nick Weslock loved the game of golf more than any other sport. The long time amateur champion and member of Canada's Sports Hall of Fame stayed close to golf right up to the day he passed away at the age of 89 on October 27, 2007 in Burlington, Ontario. His achievements and wins are astounding – it is believed he won over 400 amateur tournaments in his lifetime. Never once did he ever think of turning pro. An engineer by trade, Nick took up golf as a young man when he was a caddie at the Essex Country and Golf Club in Windsor, Ontario. The golf club lowered their flags in his honor. He won seven Ontario Opens, eight Ontario Amateurs and four Canadian Amateurs (1957, '63, '64 and '66). He was low amateur 16 times at the Canadian Open. He played for Canada many times on World Cup, America's Cup and Commonwealth teams. Nick played in the Masters four times. Moe Norman, another Canadian golfing Hall of Famer was a close friend of Nick often playing and eating breakfasts together. Moe's death in 2004 had an effect on Nick. Several hip replacements, a gall bladder ailment and other health issues did not stop Nick Weslock from playing three rounds of golf weekly. Nick Weslock will always be remembered for his skills as an amateur golfer who made his mark for Canadian golf.
