Sarah's obituary in the Carroll Chronicle, Carrollton, Ohio, Friday, April 25, 1913.

Dedicated to the memory of Sarah Jane Brown, by a friend. The angel called Death comes and goes. His coming casts deep shadows. His going leaves a strange light. Ever and anon he comes and marks a door post. Here and there he casts shadows of corresponding darkness. He goes, leaving a pathway of light from earth to heaven, a broader view of earth, a wider vision of our home. The sanctuary is a place of exaltation. Our thought mould our fate because thought and life are gone. If we give all we have, and do all that we can do, and yet think unkindly it profits us nothing. But having thought of those who live and having movement of those passed on, unite and hold us in one Christian Amry rising from earth. Our answer by the host encamped on high. The armies of heaven are sent to re-in-force the armies on earth. What greater inspiration could come to the Christian in the sanctuary. For 42 years Mrs. Sarah Jane Brown occupied the watch tower and to the Christian soldier her faithfulness to the Divine Word, her courage to speak the truth in love, was an admonition. Had we the faith of Elijah and Elisha we might behold their camps, their horsemen and their chariots, as described by the prophets in the holy word. To the husband and family, through life I wish to express my grief. May the good Lord in his time pour into their heart the "oil of joy for mourning and the garment of praise for the spirit heaviness." Mrs. Sarah Jane Brown was born December 4, 1856; was united in marriage to John M. Brown, December 25, 1886. To them were born three children: Zella Pearl Elliott, Sarah Marie Brown, Laura Cleo Brown. Also two step-children: Alice C. Moser and Flavius S. Brown, all of whom survive to mourn her memory. Another obituary, also in the April 25, 1913 paper. Mrs. John M. Brown of Rose Twp. died Friday night in Mercy Hospital, in Canton. The body was sent to her old home for interment. Her maiden name was German. She was born December 4, 1856, and was married to John M. Brown December 25, 1886. To them were born three children, who survive to comfort their father. Her aged father, Josiah T. German, six brothers and two sisters are also surviving. She was afflicted with cancer and bore her trials in great patience.
