His wife is Clare Waas Claypoole and the couple had been married for 33 years.
Born in Worthington, son of the late Nicholas and Iva Bowser Claypool.
Donald was an Air Force veteran, where he received the good conduct medal. Before retirement, he was employed as a truck driver.
He was a member of the American Legion Milford. Donald loved to drive around in his golf cart, but his greatest enjoyment came from cheering for the New York Mets.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and uncle who will be deeply missed.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by seven children, 10 grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and a special niece, Karen Artman, who was like a daughter.
He was also preceded in death by his siblings.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Oct. 17, at 2 p.m. at the Marina building in the Escape Greentown.
