April 28, 2021 Robert C. Hopkins, Sr., 88, passed away on April 28, 2021, following a brief illness. A lifelong resident of Jamesville, Robert was preceded in death by his loving wife of 51 years, Virginia (Ginny). Robert is survived by three children, Robert Jr. (Emily Yakawiak) of Jamesville, Theresa West (Mark) of Fairmount and Michael (Leslie Cadden) of Lake Winola, Pa; four grandchildren and six great grandchildren. For the last decade, Robert was supported by his best friend and companion, Lea Boylan who was always by his side. Robert was a veteran having served his country in the Army. He was stationed for a time in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Robert was employed for over 40 years at the Allied Chemical Plant in Jamesville. An extremely hard working and dedicated employee, he was respected by all that he came in contact with at the Quarry. "Hop" also officiated high school and college basketball games, and was active in several softball, bowling and golf leagues in the area. An outstanding athlete, Robert was a member of the Jamesville-DeWitt Wall of Fame for his many athletic accomplishments. Robert was very active in the Jamesville Fire Department, only recently stepping down from his role as Commissioner after 2 successful stints as Commissioner. Prior to serving as a Commissioner, Robert was an active volunteer fire fighter. Robert was an avid supporter of Syracuse University athletics. He and Ginny made many trips supporting the basketball and football teams including stops in Hawaii, Alaska, New Orleans and many other exciting destinations all in support of the Orange. Calling hours will be held at the Jamesville Community Church on Saturday, May 1 from 9:00 – 11:00 AM. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM with burial to follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, DeWitt. A celebration of life will be held at the Jamesville Fire Department from 1:00 – 3:00 PM on May 1. Family and friends are welcome to attend. NYS and CDC guidelines will be followed.
