A 24-year-old Portland man who was shot in the Hillsdale area near the Pigeon-Toed Orange Peel tavern Saturday evening died Sunday morning at the University of Oregon Health Sciences Center hospital.
Dead is Alan Blattman, who lived at his parents' home, 3123 S.W. Ridge Drive. He died while undergoing surgery, according to the Multnomah County Medical Examiner.
He was the son of Robert and Lois Blattman, both teachers in the Portland School District.
Blattman suffered at least one gunshot wound in the abdomen, police said. He was an employee of Pigeon-Toed Orange Peel up until last week when he was fired, police said.
An owner of the tavern confirmed that Blattman had been an identification checker at the tavern for the past four months and had been let go last week. He did not elaborate. He stressed that the shooting did not occur in the tavern. He termed the young man "an easygoing person."
Details of the shooting are sketchy.
According to Detective Kerry Taylor, Blattman approached some friends at about 7 p.m. in the tavern parking lot at 6327 S.W. Capitol Highway and said he had been shot.
Police have not determined precisely where the shooting took place nor if any gunshots were heard. Taylor said there were no suspects in the case.
Blattman died at 5:30 a.m.
The investigation is continuing.
