Fred Walter Carner, age 80, of Richlands, Virginia, passed away Tuesday, December 7, 2010 at his home. He was born in Tazewell, Virginia and was the son of the late Kelly and Addie Carter Carner. He had made his home in the Richlands area all of his life and was a retired conductor and brake man for Norfolk and Southern Railroad for 40 years. He was a member of the Railroad Brotherhood. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Ruth McDillda, Virginia Asbury, Ethel Hardin, and Grace Turnage; and three brothers, Paul, Jim, and Marvin Carner. Survivors are: His Wife: Peggy Joyce Carner One Daughter: Patricia Sue Carner Smith of Richlands, Virginia One Son: Dennis W. Carner of Champions Gate, Florida Two Sisters: Jean Barlinikas of Richmond, Virginia Betty Jo Marano of Phoenix, Arizona One Grandchild: Calvin Curtis Smith, II Two Great Grandchildren: Midajah Smith and Abigail Smith Funeral services for Fred Walter Carner will be conducted Friday, December 10, 2010 at 7:00pm at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia with the Rev. Thomas Stranger officiating. Entombment will follow Saturday, December 11, 2010 at 11:00am at the Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum at Claypool Hill, Virginia. Pallbearers will be: Paul Carner, P.T. Carner, Lonnie Carner, Daniel Young, Bob Carner, and Calvin Curtis Smith, II. Friends may call after 6:00pm on Friday at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia.
