Vi grew up in LeRoy, MN, population 1,079. She was very proud of her Norwegian heritage. She graduated LeRoy High School Valedictorian 1942. In support of the war effort of WW II, she moved to Minneapolis MN and worked as a bookkeeper. On her birthday in 1944 she met Robert Adams on a blind date. They danced the night away to big band music and married on August 7, 1947 in Minneapolis on the hottest day of the year. They moved to Dayton, Ohio where Bob attended the University of Dayton and Vi worked for Peerless as a bookkeeper. They developed lifelong friends, joining the Dayton Canoe Club, dancing on Saturday nights, playing Euchre and Pinochle, sledding and ice skating. Vi took pride in being a mother and homemaker. She was a creative force for her three children.
Vi and family moved to Asheville NC in 1969, discovering the beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains. She was a longtime member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church and WELC Women's group. She was an avid quilter and a member of the Asheville Quilt Guild. She delighted in the wildflowers and birds of WNC, enjoyed hiking, loved playing Rummikub and working crossword puzzles. Her grandchildren loved their fun filled time with their energetic grandmother. She regularly organized family and friends for picnics up the Blue Ridge Parkway to Craggy Gardens, Mt. Pisgah, and Mt. Mitchell. Her enthusiasm for life and loved ones was irrepressible. After retirement, Vi and Bob traveled extensively throughout the U.S.
Family and friends are invited to her memorial service at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 10 North Liberty St, in Asheville, NC on Friday, May 7, 2021 at 12:30 PM with Pastor Matthew Smith officiating.
