Bonnie Madrid Byrd
November 28, 1951 - April 26, 2021

Yvonne Madrid Byrd, a resident of Safford, entered into eternal rest Monday evening, April 26, 2021, at the Peppi's House Tucson Medical Center Hospice, following a valiant fight with cancer. Bonnie was 69.

Bonnie, as she was affectionately known, was born in Lordsburg, New Mexico on November 28, 1951. She was the first born of three children to Ramon and Mary Lou Madrid. Bonnie grew up in Morenci, Arizona where she also attended school and graduated from Morenci High School in 1969. After graduation she married Nick Castaneda and together, they had three children: Michelle, Misty, and Nikki.

In 1997, Bonnie met the love of her life, Fred Byrd. They were married October 9, 2004 and through their union she gained three more children: Troy, Travis, and Tracy.

Bonnie worked all her life in Greenlee County starting at Buffo's Jewelry, Farmers Insurance, Caldwell Funeral Home, Morenci Motel and for many years at Laugharn Elementary. In 1993, she began her career as an Administrative Assistant to the Sheriff and Detention Officer at Greenlee County Sheriff's Department until she retired in 2015.

Bonnie enjoyed spending time at the rivers, lakes, camping, fishing, traveling, going to the casinos, spending time with her children, grandchildren, and friends, as well as being adventurous with her loving husband Fred.

Bonnie is preceded in death by: her parents, Ramon & Mary Lou Madrid; and her brother, Ramon "Jap" Madrid, Jr.

Bonnie is survived by: her husband, Fred; daughters, Michelle Castaneda Gosnell (Mike), Misty Castaneda Hinton (James), and Nikki Castaneda Lopez (Chuck), Tracy Duffield (David); sons, Troy Byrd and Travis Byrd (Jyoti); mother-in-law, Ida Byrd; grandchildren, Kelci Gosnell, David Gosnell, Jordyn Hinton, Alexa Hinton, Jr. Hinton, Liliana Lopez, Lauren Duffield, Levi Duffield, Remi Byrd; great-grandson, Peyton Gosnell; brother, Charlie Madrid; nephews, Patrick Madrid (Jenise), CJ Madrid (Linda); niece, Ashley (Eric) Solan; and many great nieces and nephews, and cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Bonnie will be celebrated Friday morning, May 7, 2021, at 11:00 a.m., at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church by Rev. Nicodemus Shaghel.

A Rosary and prayers will be offered Friday morning, May 7, 2021, at 10:00 a.m., at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church.

The family will receive friends Thursday evening, May 6, 2021, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., and Friday morning, May 7, 2021, from 8:00 a.m. until 9:00 a.m., at the Vining Funeral Home.

Due to continued COVID-19 restrictions, and only 75 people allowed to be in attendance at the church, Bonnie's services will be live-streamed. Those who would like to attend the services via Facebook Live can join on Vining Funeral Home's Facebook page, Friday morning, May 7, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. (MDT).
