Rock Hill, SC – Major H. Beck (Buddy), 91, husband of the late Ada Beatrice Wallace Beck, of Rock Hill, died April 26, 2021.

He was born in Rock Hill, South Carolina to Major and Lula Blue Beck. He was raised on the Catawba Indian Reservation and attended the Indian school until the seventh grade when he needed to find employment to help his family. Like his father, he was a hard, productive worker and valued commitment and being responsible. He worked some very physical demanding jobs until his retirement at 67.

He loved baseball. As a young man he played on the Indian baseball team; later he enjoyed supporting his Atlanta Braces. He loved cars and found special pleasure taking care of and driving his 64 Chevy Impala.

He served in the Korean War with the United States Army as an Infantryman where he received a Purple Heart and other distinctions. He loved and respected his heritage and his country, always enjoying seeing the flag hoisted on his flagpole. He was a member of The American Legion Post 34.

Major was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The seeds of his simple faith were planted by his sweet mother and helped him to navigate life. Many years later, he was able to receive the blessings of the Temple, where he was sealed to the love of his life, Beatrice.

He is survived by two daughters, Diane Beck and Karen Beck-Lyner (Jamie) of Rock Hill; two sons, John Beck (Gwen) of South Jordan, Utah and Don Beck of Rock Hill; sisters, Lille Bishop, Donna Beck Curtis (Billy) of Rock Hill; eleven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
