James "Jim" Ray

James Lloyd Ray passed away on April 22, 2021, at the age of 101. He was the son of Ella (Dawson) and Lloyd C. Ray. Jim was born and raised in Libertyville, IL where he remained all his life except during WWII and when he retired to Lake Forest Place.

In 1941 he entered the Army's 41st Infantry where he fought in the Battle of Sanananda. While in Australia, he met the love of his life, Heather Watson. Her father was a sugar cane farmer and later became a member of Australian Parliament.

Jim and Heather were married in Libertyville and raised two children. He joined the family real estate and insurance business, Lloyd C. Ray and Sons. James, brother Russell, and cousin Stanley Rouse started the Mundelein Savings and Loan and the Bank of Mundelein.

Jim and Heather spent retirement gardening, reading and traveling and were devoted to their five grandchildren and visited them often.

Jim is survived by his daughter, Peg Ray, grandchildren, Lauron Ray (Maggie), Kristin Ray (Katie), Colin Ray (Katie), Zachary Oman, Paul Oman, great grandson, Max Oman, nieces, Liz Miles (Monte) and her daughter, Charlotte Lacey (Dan), Nancy Cummins (Tony) and their children Bobby and Jackie, and great nieces Debbie and Diane DeJager and their children.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, wife Heather (Watson), son Robert Ray, brothers George and Russell, and his niece Wendy DeJager (Ray).
