Jack joined us in 1936, after being scouted whilst playing for Chorley in the local Lancashire league. He had just broken into the first team when World War 2 intervened.

Jack sustained serious head wounds in 1944 during the invasion of Europe and though he survived he was unable to renew his career in professional football. However he lived a happy and active life, became a supporter of Bolton Wanderers and enjoyed a game of golf.

He lived to 91 years old dying in the Royal Bolton Hospital on March 12th 2007. He was cremated on March 19th at Overdale Crematorium, Bolton and his ashes are interred in the Garden of Remembrance at the Church of St Mary, Deane, Bolton. There is a headstone with his and Edith's name on it.
