Hal H Gerow, 74 of Daytona Beach Shores, longtime Rotarian and proprietor of Rose Villa Restaurant in Ormond Beach, FL, passed away unexpectedly on August 30, 2017.
He was born in Cornwall, NY, a direct descendant of Sarah Wells and William Bull. He graduated from Washingtonville High School and received his Bachelor's in Landscape Architecture from Syracuse University. He served with the Army Corps of Engineers in Schweitzingen, Germany as a Company Commander during the Vietnam War. He had his own Landscape Architecture Firm in Saratoga Springs, NY for 30 years and retired to Florida in 2006. He was an active and dedicated Rotarian: a Paul Harris Fellow, former District Governor, Rotary Foundation major donor and a member of the newly chartered downtown Ormond Beach Rotary Club.
A friend to all, Hal was a lifelong volunteer, a gardener, a traveler, a die hard New York Yankees fan and a golfer with many golf buddies from New Hampshire to New Smyrna Beach.
Hal was predeceased by his sister, Anita Marie Reinke; mother, Clara Hookey; father, Hallock and step-father, Kenneth Johnson. He is survived by his wife, Cindy Stowell; son, Mitchell Hallock; daughter, Erin Anita and her partner, Lindsey Samuelson; Bolivian son, Alan Campbell and his family. In addition, he leaves his sister, Elsa Jean Cameron, her husband Phil and sons, Dr. Philip and Daniel; his brother, Ken Johnson, wife Beverly, their daughter, Kristin, son Eric and their families.
Burial will be private.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 23 at the Blooming Grove United Church of Christ, 2 Old Dominion Road and Rte. 94 in Blooming Grove, NY - 2.3 miles west of Washingtonville.
