Gwenolyn Martin was born December 19, 1957 to Ruth (Moore) and Richard Martin in Fort Wayne, Indiana. She departed this on Monday, December 21, 2020.

She was the oldest of four children. She accepted Christ at a young age and was a faithful member of Jerusalem Baptist Church.

Gwen led a life of service while working for Fort Wayne's Central YMCA Branch. She held many titles throughout her tenure at the YMCA. In her final role, she served as the Financial Services Coordinator.

Gwen was known as Mama Gwen to most. She opened her heart and home to so many. She loved spending time with her family and friends. She commanded attention where ever she went, keeping a smile on everyone's face with her jokes and joyful laughter, She was a devoted mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and foster mom.

Gwen had an enormous impact on the lives of everyone she came into contact with, including her family, friends, foster children and the community. She loved to get dressed up and more than that she loved the compliments from others, she was a force to be reckoned with.

She leaves to cherish her memory her daughters, Tanesha Martin and Jalyce Martin; mother, Ruth Martin; brother, Vernon Martin; sisters, Sheila Martin and Beverly Mitchell; brother-in-law, Tracey Barbee; grandchildren, Tavareon Martin-Scott, Talaya Lapsley, Jaya Tatum, Timia Gray, Timothy Gray, Keyontah Martin, Juliessia Woodson and Jalayah Woodson; special son, Quinton Scott; special daughter, Keidra Johnson; and a host of many loving family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Courtney Barbee; daughter, Britney Barbee; son, Richard "Bo" Martin; father, Richard Martin; brother, Jeffry Martin, Sr. and mother-in-law, Betty Jean Barbee.
