PORT LUCIE, Fla. — Phillip Ray Norton, an amazing son, husband, brother, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, entered eternal happiness on Wednesday, April 21, 2021.

Phil was born in Warren, to his beautiful parents, Franklin Norton and Carolyn Deehr Norton on Sept. 14, 1947.

He graduated from Champion High School in 1965. He went on to join the Air Force, where he met his wife of 52 years, Gayle, and served in Alaska and Mississippi. After four years in the Air Force, he began a career at United Telephone in 1970 and spent his whole career there, retiring in 2007. Upon retirement, he and Gayle moved to Florida, eventually settling in Port St. Lucie.

Phil enjoyed deep-sea fishing, bowling in a league for the last 50 years, cruising and traveling, playing bingo and walking through Epcot or along the ocean. He was also an avid hunter, but more than anything he enjoyed spending time with his family by attending all his kids' and grandkids' band concerts, sporting events, graduations, weddings and births.

Phil leaves behind his beloved wife, Gayle; his mother, Carolyn Norton of Naples, Fla.; a brother, Franklin Lee (Debbie) Norton of Naples, Fla.; a sister, Connie (Dale) Doy of Denver, Colo.; his daughters, Stephanie Bock of Port St. Lucie, Fla. and Tammy (Tim) Palette of Jupiter, Fla.; and a son, Phillip (Sarah) Norton of Jupiter, Fla.

He was proud of his nine grandchildren, Lauren Vestrand, Summer Vestrand, Taylor Palette, Tyler Palette, Collin Norton, Tabitha Palette, Cameron Norton, Trista Palette and Mackenzie Norton; and his great-granddaughter, Lyela Vestrand.

"Our father was a devoted family man with a great sense of humor who immensely loved life. He could always be counted on to tell us the weather for our travels, had stories for days and was always up for an adventure. However, if his legacy were to be defined by his most important contribution, it would be the values he instilled in his entire family. He will be sorely missed."

He was preceded in death by his father, Franklin Norton; his son-in-law, Douglas Bock; his daughter's fiance, Anthony Diehl; and his granddaughter's boyfriend, Eric Kelly.

Phil has requested that his ashes be spread at some of his favorite places at a later date.
