Grace "Alleen" Davis, 88, of Topeka, passed away on Friday, April 23, 2021 with a broken body and an unbroken spirit. She was born August 24, 1932 in Phillips County, Kansas. She was raised by Murl and Ina Durnil in Long Island, Kansas during the Great Depression.

Alleen was a proud graduate of Long Island High School in 1950 and attended Kansas State University. She was a 1954 graduate of the Stormont-Vail School of Nursing and maintained a close relationship with her registered nurse classmates throughout her life. She served as a nurse at Memorial Hospital in Manhattan in the 1950's and at the Colmery-O'Neil Veteran's Administration Medical Center from the late 1970's until she retired.

Alleen was active in civic and community affairs. She served as president for the League of Women's Voters. She was also a legislative lobbyist and was a strong proponent of Women's Rights. Alleen was a long-time member of the Highland Park Baptist Church. She was an avid Bridge player. She will be missed by her many lifelong friends and family.

Alleen married on July 30, 2005 in Topeka. He survives. Other survivors include children, one step-son, five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Alleen was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, Ardith Ponte, Arby Leon Durnil and two ex-husbands, Max Morris and Jack Powell.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 28, 2021 at Dove Southeast Chapel, 2843 SE Minnesota Ave. Burial will follow in Rochester Cemetery. Alleen will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 5:30 - 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 27, 2021 at the funeral home.
