GALESBURG-Mary E. Leath, 76, Galesburg, passed away at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2007, in OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg.
She was born March 25, 1931, in Monmouth, the daughter of Orrin P. and Hannah (Doyle) Abbott.
She married Gilbert L. Leath July 31, 1948, in Cameron. He survives.
She is also survived by one son, Gilbert "Gil'' "Buzz'' (Connie) Leath Jr., Galesburg; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; five sisters, Kathryn Clark, Monmouth, Patricia Palmer of Texas, Peggy Stotler, Monmouth, Carol (Harold) Arnold, Galesburg, Connie (Don) Emery, Galesburg; and two brothers, William (Sonya) Abbot, Avon, and Robert (Arlene) Abbott, Fox Lake.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, four sisters and two brothers.
She was reared and educated in Monmouth and attended Monmouth public schools.
She was a homemaker in her own home. She was employed for a time at Wilson Foods and later at Western Stoneware, both in Monmouth.
She enjoyed crafts, gardening, flowers and sewing.
She was a member of First Christian Church in Monmouth. In general, Mary enjoyed life.
Services were held Saturday, Sept. 29, 2007, in Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth.
Internment was in Silent Home Cemetery in Cameron.
A memorial fund is being established for First Christian Church in Monmouth.
