FAIRVIEW - Beloved mother, Denise Ann Turner Thomas, age 71, of Fairview, NC, completed her life's journey here with us on Friday, April 23, 2021 at the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center in Asheville, NC. Her passing was not a topic on the evening news nor was it trending on social media. There were no candlelight vigils held outside her window nor in cities around the world. She was born on June 24, 1949 in Decatur, IL to the late Ellis Dwayne Turner and Mary Frances Stanley Turner. Denise lived what some may consider an ordinary life. She cared for her family, worked a job, and had a few close friends. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Asheville, NC. She collected antique pottery, enjoyed playing games, and cooking food for her family and friends. She was kind and thoughtful, strong and brave, tenacious and sneaky. A couple of days ago mom said, "I've run out of gas, there's nothing left in the tank." Then she grinned a big mischievous grin as her eyes sparkled and danced. She was right, her tank was out of gas. She had squeezed out every last drop of an abundant life caring for others with grace and joy, and with no regrets.
In memory of mom, please consider how you could do something special for another person today and then go do it. Make it a habit to give of yourself to someone daily without expecting anything in return. This is what she would be doing if still with us. "So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God." - 1 Corinthians 10:31. Mom went quietly and sweetly, with eager anticipation and expectation, into the fulfillment of the hope of Heaven and the beautiful and eternal presence of her Lord and savior Jesus.
Along with her parents, Denise was also preceded in death by her brother, Ellis Dwayne Turner, Jr. Those left behind to cherish her memory are her beloved husband, Robert Thomas; her son, Andrew Thomas (Amy) of Hendersonville, NC; her sister, Beverly Jones (Mike) of Fairview, NC; her grandson, River Alexander Thomas of Hendersonville, NC; and her sister-in-law, Mary Turner of Fairview, NC.
A celebration of life service will be held at 2pm, Saturday, May 1, 2021 at Trinity Baptist Church, 216 Shelburne Road, Asheville, NC 28806 with Pastor Allen Rash officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorial donations be made to the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center at 21 Belvedere Road, Asheville, NC 28803. Penland Family Funeral Home is honored to be caring for the Thomas Family and assisting them arrangements.
