John P. Benson, age 81 of East Grand Forks, MN, passed away on Thursday, April 22, 2021 at Valley Senior Living in Grand Forks, ND.
John Paul Benson was born on October 19, 1939, in East Grand Forks, MN to Charles and Toots Benson where he was raised and attended Sacred Heart High School. On October 25,1958 he was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart Doris "Dot" Boushee at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in East Grand Forks. Following his high school graduation with the class of 1957, he worked for Pepsi and moved houses with his brother-in-law, Frank Swangler. Additionally, he worked for Driscoll Brothers Farms and then General Tobacco Co. John was an avid sports guy who took great pride in his family and keeping up his yard. John also loved visiting with guests and having coffee on the patio.
Loving family members who survive John include his wife Dot of Grand Forks, ND; children Tammy (Randy) Holder of Beulah, ND and Todd (LoRae) Benson of Grand Forks, ND; 5 grandchildren Nick (Teresa) Benson, Nicole (Ryan) Gartzke, Ryan (Amanda) Holder, Jacob Benson, and Emily Benson; 7 great-grandchildren; siblings, Pat (Frank) Swangler of Grand Forks, ND, Mike (Nancy) Benson of East Grand Forks, MN, Pamela Suedel of Coon Rapids, MN, Tom (Carla) Benson of Coon Rapids, MN, Paulette (Richard) Suedel of Grand Forks, ND, Priscilla (Doug) Thomsen of Grand Forks, ND and Prudence Nelson of Coon Rapids, MN; daughter-in-law, Stasia Carew of International Falls, MN.
