Mr. Herbert Murphy Anderson entered into eternal rest on Saturday, April 10, 2021. A Memorial Service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, April 24, 2021 at Adkins-Drain Funeral Service. Inurnment will follow in Pine Forest Cemetery.
He leaves to cherish his loving memories: Nieces-Linda D. Anderson (Jerry Anderson-deceased), Carmen Anderson Engle (Brent) from New Jersey, Cynthia Tobias and Gaberilla Singleton (Michael) from Wilmington, N. C.; Great-Great Niece - Lindsay Engle (New Jersey; Great Nephew Gerald Jones (Texas); Great-Great Nephews-Dean Jones and Trell Tobias (Wilmington, N. C.) and Elias Engle (New Jersey) and a host of other nieces, nephews, and cousins, and friends that he so loved and adored.
Educated in the Wilmington public schools.
Retired after 20 years in US Navy as a Master Culinary Specialist with the rank of Petty Officer Third Class. He received many ribbons and medals including those awarded for service during Vietnam War and Expert Marksman Ribbons and Badges.
After retiring from the Navy, he continued his culinary expertise for 30 years as a chef at a Wilmington long term care facility, creating and providing meals for the residents until he retired in 2013.
