He was a bit of rascal. He married Mary Louisa Efford, while he was married to Mary he took off to Australia and married Nellie/Ellen Ashton. They were married for two weeks when they found out he was still married in New Zealand, he was sent back to New Zealand.

He then married Alice Martha Berry and when she died he married Fanny Petty (nee Shuker). While he was married to Fanny (they had a separation order in 1927) he went to Gloucestershire, England, met and married Florence Gladys Cooper in 1928 Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, England. They had a child Hoover Victor Ansley in 1929, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, England.

Florence and their son Victor left Southampton, England in 1931 and headed to New Zealand. He then was divorced from Fanny in 1931. He remarried Florence Gladys Cooper in 1934 in New Zealand.

He was a Railway Employee, a Bootmaker. Worked at East Town Railways workshops for 15 years. Very active in sports and lodges. Represented New Zealand at Prague Conference of World Brotherhood Federation in 1926.
