William "Bill," Caldwell 72, of Louisville, passed away Tuesday, April 20, 2021 while on vacation with his loving wife and dear friends. He died of cardiac arrest and did not suffer. William Thompson Caldwell was born on August 12, 1948 in Calvary, KY to the late Doll Caldwell and Martha Jane Woodard.

Bill lived a full life. He proudly served his country for two tours in The Vietnam War starting at the age of 17. He then went on to marry the love of his life, Darlene at the age of 20. Darlene and Bill had 4 children together and 3 grandchildren. Bill was a very loving and active husband, father, grandfather and friend to many.

He helped countless people during his decades of working as a Realtor and Broker of Caldwell & Associates. Bill also worked tirelessly for almost 30 years with L&N & CSX railroad. In addition to that, he was the President of Buechel Little League and coached and mentored hundreds of children. He was an avid member of St Pius X School and Parish, served on the School Board there for years, and started the Bus program. Bill loved Trinity High School (class of '66) and was so proud to be a part of the Trinity Family.

Bill was a generous giver of his time and talent. He supported children in impoverished countries and even with the language barrier, they remained in contact with him into their adult years.

Preceding him in death, other than his parents, are his brother Joseph H. Caldwell and his son, Joseph W. Caldwell.

He is survived by his wife of almost 52 years, Darlene Mattingly Caldwell; daughter, Cyndi Whitmer (Steve Whitmer); son, W. Brad Caldwell (Leigh Anne Caldwell); daughter, Angela Nerdig (Mike Nerdig); and three grandsons, Cody Schaefer, Will and Harrison Nagler; his spunky dog, Ruby; and his 4 grand dogs.

Bill's visitation will be at Ratterman & Sons Funeral Home, 3800 Bardstown Road, from 2-6 on Sunday, April 25, 2021. His funeral Mass will be held at 10 AM on Monday, April 26, 2021 at St. John Paul II. Burial will follow his service at Calvary Cemetery.
