Soldier of the Revolution. His date of birth / death is generally given as 1744 / 1831 (in the book "Thomas Sanford, The Emigrant To New England, Ancestry, Life and Descendants 1632-4," by Carleton E. Sanford), although this stone reads 1746 / 1833. This is a modern replacement stone and there is no sign of the original.

He was the father of Chloe Sanford Reed and arrived with the Reed family as pioneer settlers in Livingston County, NY, in the early 1800's.

Son of Ezekiel Sanford (1707-1760) & Desire Warner (1704-1747), h/o 1st Sarah Chloe Cook (1743-1784) and 2nd Rebecca Barker Foote, died at home of his son Elisaph Sanford.

Revolutionary War. Dates of enlistment and appointment are as follows: 1775, for eight months as a private under Capt. Benedict Arnold (Conn. Regt.); 1776, for ten months as a private under Capt. Smith and Col. Elmore (Conn. Regt.); April 1777 to 15 Jun1779 as a Corporal under Capt. David Smith and Col. Chandler (8th Conn. Reg.). All enlistments were at Waterbury, CT. Ezekiel fought in the battles of Germantown and Monmouth (The battle at Monmouth Court House, NJ, in 1778, was the last major battle in the North during the Revolution and took place in the spring following the winter spent at Valley Forge, PA). He was wounded in battle by a bullet striking the bridge of his nose.
