This is speculative placement of his memorial. His burial in Sutton is documented in the original Sutton death register for 1866 at Town Hall. The cemetery is not identified.

There is a vertically placed fieldstone between the gravestones for his first wife, Kezia May (Anderson) Goddard, and for their son, Abraham Francis. It may have been put there to mark his burial site for placement of a gravestone, which did not happen.

The date of birth entered above is by backdating based on his full age recorded as 72 years, 2 months, 8 days in the Sutton death register. Holden is identified as the place of birth. His parents are identified as Gardner & Sophia (Rice) Goddard in both his death record and the record of his second marriage. No birth record has been located to confirm. However, Gardner Godard (sic) and Sophia Rice married in Holden in 1782. The family is residing in Holden in the 1790 census and Boylston in the 1800 census.

He and Kezia May Anderson married in Holden on November 26, 1817.

Known children (all with surname spelled Godard in the Sutton Vital Records) were:

- Abraham Francis, born Nov. 15, 1821
- John Emmerson, born Dec. 26, 1823, died Feb. 9, 1827
- Esther Jane, born June 15, 1829

In the 1855 state census and 1860 federal census, he is residing in Sutton in the household of son Abraham and daughter-in-law, Sarah.
