Jerry D. Carpenter, 79, of Oakwood passed away at his residence on Saturday, July 20, 2019 following an extended illness.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 24, 2019 in the Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home with Rev. Phil Carpenter officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, July 23, 2019 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Born on July 17, 1940 in Gainesville, GA he was the son of the late James L and Edna Pearl Roberts Carpenter.

Mr. Carpenter was an alumni of Gainesville High School where he met and married the love of his life Patsy Gail Millwood Carpenter. They were blessed with one child Tammy Carpenter who was the light of their lives. Tammy and her husband, Mike Green, was with her father and mother during her father's illness.

Always by his side doing whatever needed to be done for both her parents. For this Patsy will be forever grateful for the woman Tammy is and the man Mike is.

Mr. Carpenter was an alumni of the University of GA. He worked for Southern Bell for 32 years where he was a supervisor. During his life Mr. Carpenter was a member of the Hall County School Board for two terms beginning in January 1975 serving until December 1982. He was Chairman for one term. Mr. Carpenter also served on the Hall County Board of Commissioners and also served as Chairman for one term. Mr. Carpenter was a member of the Hospital Board, Board of Trustee ACCG, and AT&T Pioneers. Mr. Carpenter was a member of Flat Creek Baptist Church.

Mr. Carpenter was a part of the 1996 Olympic Committee who traveled abroad to help bring the Rowing Venue to Hall County. He was a successful coach of Baseball, Basketball, and football for many years. He was a successful Archery champion and a member of Ga. Bow Hunting and Archery Assoc. An avid sportsman, he loved ALL sports.

Mr. Carpenter is survived by his wife of 63 years, Patsy Millwood Carpenter of Oakwood; daughter and son in law, Tammy Carpenter Green and Mike of Gainesville; granddaughters and husbands, Jennifer Patricia Elrod and Jeremy of Gainesville, Jamie Leanne Loggins and Barry of Gainesville; grandson and wife, Jay Michael Green and Whitney of Buford,; grandson, Jordan Carpenter Green; 6 great grandchildren, Noah, Caroline, Eli, Gunner, Everley, Maddux; brother and sister in law, Rev. Phil and Patsy Vaughn Carpenter of Gainesville; sister, Tommie Nell Ingram of Gainesville; special friend, Victor Dube and a number of other relatives.

The family would like to give many thanks to Dr. Ken Dixon, Dr. Egolum and the staff of NE Ga. Heart Center for their incredible work and compassion.

In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to Sugar Hill Baptist Church 3250 Athens Hwy Gainesville GA 30507.
