Maria Clara Correia Alves was a Portuguese author, teacher, editor, journalist , freemason, free-thinker, republican activist and suffragette. She was a member of the main feminist associations in Portugal, from the beginning of the 20th century, such as the Portuguese Republican League of Portuguese Women and the National Council of Portuguese Women, having held various positions as Secretary General, Secretary General for Foreign Affairs, Vice President, President of the Journalistic Section or as editor of the "Official Bulletin of the National Council of Portuguese Women" (1914-1916) and of the feminist magazine "Alma Feminina" (1917-1919).
