Mae A. Thomas, 95, of Stanton Street, Wilkes-Barre, passed away Thursday, Feb. 25, 2021, after a fall.

She was born in Wilkes-Barre on April 8, 1925, a daughter of the late Thelma (a survivor of the Titanic) and Alexander Thomas. Mae was a lifelong resident of Wilkes-Barre.

Mae graduated from GAR High School with the Class of 1943. Her subsequent career in the retail clothing industry spanned 53 years. In 1997, she retired as the store manager of Brijette Fashions of Wilkes Barre - a Kindler Corporation location.

Mae led a rewarding community life. Her community services included volunteering with St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (32 years); Titanic Enthusiasts of America; Downtown Wilkes-Barre Merchants Association; Junior Catholic Women's Club; GAR Reunion Committee (Class of 1943); and the Firwood Senior Center. She was a member of the Maronite Community of St Anthony–St. George Church, Wilkes Barre.

Mae was honored on many occasions including Woman of the Year - AISAC, The Luzerne County Historical Society Appreciation Award, and The Historical Society of Tobyhanna Twp. Outstanding Service Award.

In 2010, Mae responded to the opportunity to work with William "Bill" Lewis, then-president of the Luzerne County Historical Society. They developed and presented multiple times a year a 100th anniversary commemorative program regarding the 1912 sinking of the Titanic. The coronavirus pandemic suspended the program's offering in March 2020.

Mae was the last of her generation in her family. She was preceded in death by her four brothers, Assid, Edward, Joseph and Peter; and her five sisters, Sadie Fedorchak; Sarah Shupp; Helena; Marjorie; and Joan Damiani.

She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and nephews and great grand-nieces and nephews.

Mae is deeply missed by her family, friends, business associates and fellow volunteers.

Due to the impact of the coronavirus on large gatherings, there will be no calling hours.

A funeral service has been planned for 11 a.m. on June 11 in St. Anthony-St. George Maronite Church, 311 Park Ave., Wilkes Barre.

That same day there will be an interment service at 12:30 p.m. at St. Mary's Cemetery, 134 S. Washington St., Wilkes Barre.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mae A. Thomas Memorial Fund at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
