Emily Ann Blanton Mathis, was born April 5,1942 to James B. Blanton Jr. and Martha Luckey Blanton, the eldest of five. Departed this life April 9, 2021.
She was a member of First AME Zion Church 63 years, and served in many capacities.
She loved to sing, and sang many years with the United Fellowship Mass Choir, under the direction of the late Robert Spencer.
She retired from Knox County Schools, Food Service, mostly at Sarah Moore Greene Magnet, after 27 years of service.
She was an integral part of "Because They're Special Day Care," for many years. A very loving, caring, and devoted person, always serving others.
Preceded in death by parents; brother, James B. Blanton III; daughter, Mary Linda.
Survived by daughters, Marilynn Mathis, Kimberly Strickland, Debra Washington; sons, Christopher Dexter, and James E.(Juvena) Mathis Sr., all of Knoxville.
Emily was blessed with thirteen grandchildren, and fifteen great grandchildren; numerous other relatives, friends, and acquaintance that shall long cherish her memory.
Open visitation, 12:00 noon- 8:00 p.m. Thursday April 22, 2021 at Jarnigan's Chapel.
Walk through, 11:00 a.m.- 12:00 noon, Friday, April 23, 2021 at First AME Zion Church, 1900 McCalla Ave.; funeral service, 12:00 noon, Rev. Michael McNair, Officiating.
