Edward F. Murphy Jr., 88, recently arrived from Cape Coral, Florida, passed away on Sunday, April 18, 2021, in Roanoke, Virginia. He was born to parents Edward and Josephine (Morrissey) Murphy on May 19, 1932 in Bronx, New York.

He married the love of his life, Annette E. Paterno, in 1952 who survives him. Ed is also survived by his son, Skip Murphy and his wife, Vickie; his daughter, Terry Hartley and her husband, Hetzal; his daughter, Mary Meachem and her husband, Matt; his son, Patrick Murphy and his wife, Margaret; as well as eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Ed was predeceased by his parents and his oldest daughter, Joanne Hoff.

Ed was known for his love of fishing, storytelling, world traveling, and a good practical joke. He lit up the room wherever he went and was quick to give a helping hand to anyone in need. Ed joined the United States Army at 17 years old and proudly served his country for 22 years rising to the rank of Sergeant First Class. His overseas assignments included Germany, Korea, and Vietnam. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for service in South Vietnam.

The family would like to thank Good Samaritan Hospice, especially Cathy, his hospice nurse, and the staff of Woodland Hills for all their compassion and support.

A Funeral Mass will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 24, 2021, at Saint Andrews Catholic Church in Roanoke, Virginia.

The family requests in lieu of sending flowers, that donations be made to Maryknoll Father and Brothers, P.O. Box 302, Maryknoll, NY, 10545-0302.
