Sarah was born in 1742 to Isaac Shiprut De Gabay Villa Real (abt. 1720) and Esther Shiprut (abt. 1715). She married Benjamin D'Israeli on May, 28 1765 in Bevis Marks Synagogue, London.

Her family originated from Leghorn, not Portugal, as cited by the Earl of Beaconsfield.

According to Robert Blake, Sarah was something of a rebel and hated her Jewish faith, from which stance may emanate her descendants' scepticism. She was not however well-liked by her famous grandson Benjamin Disraeli who called her 'a demon' and commented that she was, 'so mortified with her social position that she lived until eighty without indulging in a tender expression'.
