After growing up in Pottstown, PA, and graduating from high school, he joined the U.S. Air Force and earned an Associate Degree through the military. He served during the First Gulf War--Desert Shield and Desert Storm. He retired from the USAF in 1993 as a Tech Sergeant. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, served in in all offices and held title of Past Grand Knight. He was also a member of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus (Immaculate Conception Assembly in Savannah, GA) and also served in all offices and held the title of Past Faithful Navigator. He was a member of the American Legion, the VFW and Disabled Veterans (DAV--life member). He was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil L Fischer and Jeannette Czajkowski Fischer, who were both World War II veterans. His father was killed in Korea in 1950. His two brothers, Robert and Kenneth, also preceded him in death. Surviving are his wife, Jayne Spearman Fischer; daughters, Stefanie (Eddie) Smith, Allenhurst, GA, and Monica Robbins, Pittsburgh, PA; grandchildren, Christina (Clint) Mallard, Odum, GA, Jessica (Zach) Jones, Colorado Springs, CO, Emily Robbins, Davenport, IA, and David-Edward Cody Smith, Hinesville, GA; seven great-grandchildren, Loretta "Retta", Averi, Maxine-Kay "Maxi", and Johnathan "JJ" Mallard, Beau and Carter Jones, and Lucas Robbins.
