Martha E Lowe, 81, of Lumberton MS quietly passes away on Monday, April 12, 2021 at 9L30 am, as the result of a long-term battle with a rare form of blood cancer. Her husband, family members and close friends were by her side when the Lord called her to her heavenly home.
Martha was born to Gladys Bertress and John P Kersh of Lumberton, MS on July 19, 1939. Martha attended Lumberton Elementary school, Hattiesburg Middle School, and Hattiesburg High School.
She later enrolled in Pearl River Community College in Hattiesburg MS where she obtained her GED and an Associates Degree in Business Administration.

Martha is survived by her husband, James A Lowe, two step-children, James Thad Lowe (Teresa) and Rebekah Paige Lowe Sutton, seven grandchildren, Steven Lowe, Robert Everett Lowe, Seth Sutton and Saige Sutton; Kyleigh Christian Price (Trey), Keiryn McLeod, Makenna Shane McLeod and Mark Anthony Creel. Martha had four children of her own by a previous marriage: Martha Suzanne Hartness Gwaltney, William Guy Hartness III (Karen:, Jonna Renee Hartness Creel (Mark), and Andrea Leigh Hartness McLeod.
Martha is also survived by one sister, Johnnie Ruth Hendricks, a number of great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Marth's parents and one older sister, Annie Lou Kersh Hartfield and one brother-in-law, Frank Hendricks (Johnnie Ruth) all preceded Martha in death. Martha dearly loved her grandchildren, great grandchildren and thoroughly enljoyed shopping, reading stories and playing games with them.
Marth and James later moved to Fort Worth, TX, where James was employed with Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. while in Fort Worth, Martha worked for several medical practices and doctors as their Office Manager and Receptionist. Marth also worked for Southwestern Seminary where she served as Director of Housing at Barnard Hall, the Women's Dormitory on the main campus.
Martha and James were members at South-Hills Baptist Church where James taught a men's Sunday School Class and Martha served as the Children's Preschool Director for fifteen years and supervised 12 teachers. Later, Martha helped design a larger Pre-School Department for the church.
After Martha's husband's retirement in Fort Worth, they moved back to the Lumberton/Purvis area, where they became members of Purvis first Baptist Church in Purvis MS.
A visitation will be held inside the Sanctuary of Purvis First Baptist Church on Saturday, April 17, 2021 for close friends and family members. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 am. Funeral services will begin promptly at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make donations to the Polycythemia/Leukemia dn Lymphoma Society.
