During the American Revolutionary War, Jacob fought with the 2nd Virginia Regiment. He joined as a Private on July 17, 1780, in Bedford County, Virginia. He was discharged January 17, 1782, in Salisbury, North Carolina.
Jacob Bushong and Eva Bossert married on January 1, 1784. The ceremony was performed by Reverend Simon Harr at Strasburg, Shenandoah County, Virginia.

"I, Jacob Bushong of Harrison Twp., Stark Co OH, to my much beloved wife Eve Catharina; to my oldest son John, 30 acres off the west side of the quarter section I now live on; to sons Samuel, Jacob, William, & Peter, daughters Elizabeth Windell, Catharina Hively & Sarah Kleckner; my son George deceased, leaving one son named Jacob. My loving wife Eve Catharina to be executor of this my last will."
