Carolyn Gleaton Scarbrough, age 83, passed away after a brief illness on February 10, 2021.
She was born on December 29, 1937, in her family home, which also served as the J. H. Gleaton's store on Fairview Road in Ellenwood, Georgia, to the late John Henry Gleaton and Ruth Irene Toney Gleaton. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, John Stewart Gleaton, and Hazel Juanita Chamlee.

Mrs. Scarbrough is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Coley Eugene (Gene), her daughter, Sheila (Mark) Long, grandchildren, Shelby and Joshua Long, sister, Thelma Walden, and several nieces and nephews. She attended Fairview School on Fairview Road and graduated from McDonough High School in 1955. Carolyn and Gene met at a pound party in Ellenwood at Carolyn's cousin's home. They married on December 16, 1955, at her sister Hazel's home in East Atlanta.

Mrs. Scarbrough worked for a number of years at First National Bank of Atlanta in downtown Atlanta before deciding to become a homemaker, raising her daughter and caring for her father. She enjoyed going to the beach. Gene and Carolyn had a second home for several years in Carrabelle, Florida, where they vacationed and enjoyed fishing and relaxing. She especially enjoyed going to Disney World and Sea World with her grandchildren and attended many soccer games, cheerleading events, dance recitals, and concert band performances. She liked watching her grandchildren perform in their high school marching band. Carolyn was a Georgia Bulldog fan when her daughter attended the University of Georgia but also became a Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket fan when her grandchildren, Shelby and Joshua, attended Georgia Tech. Carolyn was especially proud of all her family and the accomplishments of her daughter and grandchildren. She loved her family deeply and prayed daily for them.

Mrs. Scarbrough was a faithful believer and loved the Lord Jesus Christ. Her faith was central to her life. Carolyn was a long time member of Anvil Block United Methodist Church in Ellenwood.

A private graveside service will be held with her family on Tuesday, February 16.
